Summary

The Field Operator position provides maintenance and repair of water distribution systems and ensures the unobstructed flow through the collection system to lift stations.

Essential Functions

• Repairs water leaks on mains, service lines, meters, valves, and fire hydrants. Installs or replaces meters, water taps, water lines, valves, fire hydrants, and service lines. Performs backfilling and leveling of job sites. Washes and flushes main sewer lines using a vactor cleaning machine.
• Repairs and replaces old sanitary sewer lines with new pipe and replaces sewer taps. Backfills and levels job sites. Installs, raises and cleans out manholes.
• Inspects and maintains trucks, tractors, water pumps, sewer pumps and tools daily.
• Drives dump trucks and utility trucks, hauling equipment and materials to job sites. Qualified personnel can train on backhoes and other equipment, over time.
• Run heavy & light equipment (backhoe, mowers, packers and tractors, etc.)
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Performs heavy work exerting 50-100lbs. of force occasionally; 25-50lbs. frequently; or 10-20lbs. of force constantly.
• Once probation and training are complete, the employee will be a rotating call schedule, on-call for 24 hrs. 7 days straight.
• Within 1 year, must acquire TCEQ Class D Water Operation and/or Collection I Wastewater License.
• Within 3 years, must acquire TCEQ Class C Groundwater License.

Physical Job Requirements

Must possess mobility to work in the field; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work in confined spaces, around machines, and to climb and descend ladders, and to operate varied hand and power tools and construction equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate the above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 100 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.

Ability to achieve levels of performance using tools and machinery. Attain verbal records and comply with specifications for materials, methods, and procedures to attain standards. Ability to change tasks using different procedures without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to solve problems, make evaluations or reach conclusions based on subjective criteria, such as the five senses, knowledge, past experiences or factual data. Minimum REQUIRED Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Must live and be able to respond on-site to call-outs within 30 minutes.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Attendance is an essential function of this position and in the event of an emergency this position maybe required to work overtime in order to perform essential services needed to sustain operations.

Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical, and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives, and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
