Celebrating Our Team: Recent Awards at BCWCID #2

Every time you turn on the tap, flush a toilet or drive past a crew working on a water line, you’re seeing the work of the people at Bastrop County WCID #2. Most of that work happens quietly, and when it goes well, nobody notices. That’s exactly why we want to take a moment to recognize it.

This fall, two state organizations honored our team for their dedication to good administration and safety. To celebrate them, we’ve launched a new Awards page on our website, where you can see these honors and future ones as they come in.

Patricia Lujan: TRWA Excellence in Administration Award

Our District Administrator, Patricia Lujan, received the Texas Rural Water Association’s award for excellence in administration. She was selected from 16 other nominees across the state and accepted the award at TRWA’s annual conference in Arlington.

Patricia has been with the District for almost 16 years and was promoted to District Administrator last year. After the District went through a great loss several years ago, she stepped up, took charge of the office and kept things running smoothly for our customers. This award recognizes years of hard work, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Our Crews: Texas Municipal League Road Ready Award

The Texas Municipal League (TML) recognized our staff and Board for reaching 100% completion of the State’s Road Ready Assessment. Out of more than 2,800 TML members, we are only the 24th to reach that mark.

It took our team two years of training, testing and monitoring to get there. The program covers safety at work and dig sites, traffic control and general safety around our facilities. TML started it five years ago in response to fatal accidents around the state. ROAD stands for:

  • Recognizing the hazards
  • Observing the conditions around you
  • Assessing who or what is affected by the work
  • Determining the safest course of action

As General Manager Paul Hightower puts it, the goal is simple: making sure every crew member, and every driver who passes them, makes it home safely at the end of the day.

See the Awards and Say Thanks

Visit our new Awards page to see photos from both presentations and read the full stories. We’ll keep adding to it as our team earns new recognition.

You can help celebrate, too. Next time you pass one of our crews working on a road, slow down, give them room and give them a wave or a thank-you. And if you ever see something that looks unsafe, please contact us so we can make it right.

Congratulations to Patricia and to our whole BCWCID #2 team, and thank you for everything you do for our customers.
